Tamar Chameides is a printmaker originally from Los Angeles, now based in Providence, Rhode Island.
Her work, spanning printmaking, drawing, and sculptural practices, deals with her longing to reconnect with the space around her, through a hybrid sensitivity to tactility and vision. Her work helps her feel more grounded in 3D space and unlocks an awareness to which she is attuned to the subtle details in her environment. She is interested in visual perception, psychology, and physics, and much of her work aims to push the physical, visual, and textural hypotheticals, in which space is redefined and reimagined.
At the core of her work is a deep engagement with the language of print-- and its fundamental connection to materiality. Through it, she seeks to depict a sense of crisp depth and spatial clarity—where subtle marks become portals into imagined spaces. In her free time you can find her fishing in the Naragansett bay, playing chess, or blowing glass.
